Collector warns against fake news

It seems as if the District Collector too is not spared of the scourge of fake news on social media after a Facebook post in his name declaring a holiday for all schools and colleges in the district on Wednesday began circulating over WhatsApp and other social media platforms. The fake post gained currency as it was designed exactly as a replica of posts from the Collector’s official Facebook page. As the post flew thick and past, confused parents and teachers started inquiring in their circles whether it was true.

However, the rumour was laid to rest when Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla issued a circular around 10.15 p.m. It warned of strict action against those forging the Collector’s Facebook account and spreading fake news.
