Coast Guard ship decommissioned

: The Coast Guard decommissioned Interceptor Boat C-134, at the Naval Base here on Friday.

DIG T.K.S. Chandran, commander of Coast Guard district headquarters no.4 with jurisdiction over Kerala and Mahe decommissioned the vessel.

The boat, designed by M/s Anderson Marine Pvt. Ltd, Goa, was commissioned into the Coast Guard in 1994 and was based at Goa initially before being shifted to Vizhinjam, Kerala on November 11, 2013.The boat was actively involved in humanitarian assistance, search and rescue operations and anti-smuggling and anti-poaching drives.

 The commanding officer of the ship was awarded with Tatrakshak Medal for gallantry on August 15, 2012 for rescue operations along the coast of Kerala. The vessel, which was being commanded by Deputy Commandant S. Praveen Kumar, was accredited by Coast Guard Commander (western seaboard) as the ‘Most Swift Ship of Western Region’ last year.
