The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI) Clean City Movement, a non-governmental organisation, is considering online sale of manure generated from its decentralised biodegradable waste treatment systems installed in over 650 apartment complexes.
“We are toying with the idea to sell our own brand of manure through e-commerce players like Amazon,” Najeeb Zackeria, chairman, CREDAI Clean City Movement (CCM), told The Hindu here on Friday.
The proposal was presented before members of the National Green Tribunal’s Regional Monitoring Committee (South) on Solid Waste Management during their visit to an apartment complex in the city to take stock of the decentralised waste management facility. CCM has installed its eco-composter model to process biodegradable waste at the complex.
Mr. Zackeria said the proposal on selling manure online was at the conceptual stage. “We have taken cue from the fact that many are using the e-commerce route to sell organic manure these days,” he added.
According to CCM estimates, at least six to 10 tonnes of manure is generated a week from over 650 apartments in seven districts, where the NGO is currently offering its services. The manure is now either sold by apartment owners or used in their gardens. CREDAI has been supplying the remaining manure free of cost to farmers.
The proposal is to introduce CCM’s own brand of manure after meeting the Centre’s mandatory conditions. Representatives of the NGO said revenue generation was not the aim as the focus would be on ensuring a sustainable model of waste processing and disposal.
