Kochi city has demanded a preferential treatment in the annual budget of the State government for taking forward its development projects.

An urban development project for the commercial capital of the State along the lines of the capital city development project should be formulated in addition to special projects for the comprehensive development of Kochi, suggested Mayor Soumini Jain in a letter to the State government.

The city needs special projects for the development of its infrastructure facilities. Urban transport sector needed special consideration and special budget allocation was needed for the sector, she said.

Ms. Jain flagged the land acquisition for the Thammanam-Pullepady road project and the construction of Vaduthala and Vathuruthi railway overbridge projects for special budgetary support. Steps for ending the vehicle toll in Pullepady bridge also needed to be taken, she said.

The junction improvement projects in Kochi needed the support of the State government. Special budgetary provisions should be made for the development of the city junctions, she said.

On the Smart City projects, the Mayor requested the State government to release its share of funds for the timely implementation of projects.
