The police team probing the Abhimayu murder case has found that Abdul Nasar, a native of Nettur, who was arrested in connection with the case last week, had been part of the group that murdered the student.

Official sources said that during interrogation, the accused had confessed to being part of the gang that had unleashed violence on the Maharaja’s College campus on the day. He has been remanded to judicial custody. Witnesses have identified all the 16 persons arrested in connection with the case.

The police team is slated to submit the first set of chargesheet in two weeks. The police are on the lookout for at least 13 more persons including eight people who were directly involved in the murder.

Campus Front of India State secretary Muhammed Rifa; Saneesh, who had led the four-member gang from Palluruthy, and Muhammed J.I., a student of Maharaja’s college are the three prime accused in the case. Rifa, who used to stay at Cochin House, a camp of Popular Front sympathisers, is accused of mobilising the killer squad.
