The police on Friday filed a split chargesheet against Beecha Jaganna, alias Suguna, one of the four suspected Maoists, for attempting to wage war against the State, before the Ernakulam principal sessions court.
Roopesh of Thrissur, his wife Shyna and Malla Raji Reddy of Andhra Pradesh were accused along with Beecha Jaganna of propagating Maoist ideology in an earlier chargesheet. Roopesh and Shyna have been accused of harbouring Maoist leader Malla Raji Reddy. They allegedly helped Reddy and his wife get a house on rent at Perumbavoor using false identities. The suspected Maoists first came to the attention of the police when the owner of the house they were living in filed a complaint about a theft in his house.
Police later found that Reddy and Jaganna were living on rent under false identities. They have also been accused of unlawful impersonation. The duo was arrested in 2007 when they were reportedly propagating Maoist ideology among migrant labourers in Angamaly. Jaganna had been recently let out on bail by the District Court here in the impersonation case.
Ajeetha Begum, Superintendent of Police, Internal Security Investigation Team (ISIT), said the team was on the look-out for the absconding accused in the case, in which investigation has already been completed.
Sathish Binoo, Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural, said there were no specific information about Maoist movement in the rural belt. There were some communal hotspots in areas like Perumbavoor, he said.
