A visit to the Government Law College on Friday morning took Chief Minister Oommen Chandy down the memory lane.
“It was from here that controversies became a part of my life,” he said recalling an interesting incident in his student life as a leader of the Kerala Students Union. The Chief Minister turned nostalgic at the inauguration of the girls’ hostel constructed using the Rs. 50 lakh asset creation fund of Hibi Eden, MLA.
As district president of KSU, he had given a call for a strike but interestingly it was made on an examination day. The KSU leader had no option but to appear for the exam that later triggered widespread protests from his opponents.
“From that day onwards, there used to be a poster at all my functions, which referred to me as a student leader who wrote his examination while disrupting the classes of other students,” the Chief Minister said evoking laughter from the audience that mainly comprised of students.
Mr. Chandy said the law college hall, where the meetings of the Cochin Legislative Assembly were held, would be protected as a heritage structure.
Mr. Eden presided. K.V. Thomas, MP; Mayor Tony Chammany; Ludy Luiz, MLA; District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam; Deputy Mayor B. Bhadra; and Principal Lovely Paulose attended.
