CBI seeks nod for polygraph on Sooraj

June 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - KOCHI:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team probing the Kalamassery land grab case on Tuesday approached the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court seeking permission to conduct polygraph test on T.O. Sooraj, former Land Revenue Commissioner.

Considering the petition, magistrate K.S. Ambika posted it for further hearing on June 11.

The petition filed by the CBI highlighted the need for conducting a test on Sooraj so as to get more details about the people involved in the case. Earlier on Monday, the court had refused to entertain a petition by Sooraj, expressing his willingness to undergo narco-analysis test in connection with the case.

Declining the plea, it directed Sooraj to approach the investigation agency for the purpose.

Following this, Sooraj had appeared before the CBI on Tuesday morning.

In April, the court dismissed a petition by the CBI to conduct the test on Sooraj after he had expressed unwillingness to undergo the same. Sooraj was the Land Revenue Commissioner when the alleged fraud was perpetrated allegedly by Salim Raj and his associates.

During an interrogation by the CBI last week, Sooraj had stated that he acted according to the information and reports received from officials in the Revenue Department, including then Ernakulam District Collector Sheikh Pareeth.
