The Kochi unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation probing the nurse’s recruitment scam on Tuesday registered three more cases in connection with the case.

The reports, submitted in the CBI court in Kochi, have L.Adolphus as the key accused who was in cahoots with various recruitment agencies. In the first FIR, the CBI has arraigned P.J.Mathew, proprietor of Mathew International and Muhammad Nina Prabhu of Munnavvara Associates in Mumbai as the second and third accused respectively.

According to officials, Mathew International acted as a sub-agent to recruit nurses on behalf of Munnavvara Associates, which had bagged a contract with the Kuwait health ministry for recruiting 400 nurses. “The PoE, despite knowing this fact, permitted the agency to carry on with the recruitment process and did not report this to Protector General of Emigrants ’’, they said.

In the second case, the agency accused the PoE of failing to act against J.K International, which had been charging excess fee for reruitments. “A sub-inspector with the Kerala police had already reported the matter to the PoE though the official did not take any action to stop the fleecing of these candidates’’, officials added. Proprietor of the agency Kuriakose and CEO Renny Eapen are second and third accused in the case.

Similarly, the PoE also did not stop Trust International Overseas Manpower in Adoor, another travel agency, from sub-letting its recruitment contract to Pan Asian Tours and Travels in Changanassery. According to CBI officials, even after the expiry of the license, Pan Asian Tours and Travels operated under the license of Trust International, which was illegal.

The PoE, meanwhile, was allegedly aware of the illegal activity but hesitated to take any action. Salim, proprietor of Pan Asia and Sajan, proprietor of Trust International are second and third accused in the case. The cases have been registered under sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act. The CBI will be issuing notices to the persons named in these FIRs for interrogation.
