A day after it wrapped up its search and seizure operations at the Maradu municipality with regard to documents pertaining to the four apartment complexes built in violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms, the Crime Branch (CB) special team carried out a survey at the apartments concerned on Friday.

The CB conducted the survey with the help of officials from the Department of Survey and Land Records as part of its ongoing probe into the construction of the apartments, which the Supreme Court had ordered to be pulled down. The demolition of the buildings is set to begin later this month.

Officials sources said the investigation was in an advanced stage and that the measurements were taken for establishing the violation of CRZ norms and the entire process was photographed. It may continue in the days to come.

While the apex court had already confirmed the CRZ violations, it was the bounden duty of the investigation team to provide documents and other evidences to further corroborate it.

Documents seized

Tomin J. Thachankary, ADGP, CB, had on Thursday conducted a review of the progress of the probe in Kochi and expressed satisfaction about the way it was moving ahead. The CB had seized documents from the Maradu municipal office for three days before wrapping it up on Thursday.

Hundreds of documents, each relating to each of the four apartment complexes, were seized in the drive, which the team was now analysing in detail.
