Capturing on canvas the passages of life

June 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Kochi:

There is strong evidence to suggest that the art scene in Kochi is picking up, thanks to the Biennale.

The Art’ry gallery in Fort Kochi, set up in the wake of the Biennale, opened artist Benitha Perciyal’s solo show soon after the art event got over and collectors bought a few works from the show.

The gallery has now begun a group exhibition, ‘Rite of Passage’, curated by Kanchi Mehta and featuring artists Arundhati Saikia, Kalidas Mhamal, DK Kedar, Ratna Khanna, Rithika Merchant and Shivani Gupta. The show captures phases from a life’s internal and maybe eternal passage through a myriad of transitions and experiences.

The six artists, working with different mediums, have certain elements in their works that align with the curatorial concept.

The group show will be under way till July 12.
