Can’t take over properties of Srividya, says govt.

June 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - KOCHI:

The State government on Tuesday informed the Kerala High Court that it could not take over the properties of the late actor Srividya and hand them over to the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy.

In a statement, the government said it had no role to play in the case as it was a “private law remedy”. It was filed in response to a writ petition filed by Kerala Congress (B) leader K.B. Ganesh Kumar, MLA, seeking a directive to the State government to take over the assets of the actor and hand them over to the academy. The government pointed out that Srividya executed a will on August 17, 2006, and registered it with the Sasthamangalam Sub-Registrar office, Thiruvananthapuram.

Mr. Ganesh Kumar had been appointed as an executor and trustee of the will. He was entrusted to execute a number of acts, including the takeover of all movable and immovable assets of Srividya, clearing her debts, paying off some amounts from her assets to the persons specifically mentioned in the will, and formation of a charitable society in her name.

Mr. Ganesh Kumar had formed the MLV Srividya charitable society with him as the chairman.

The disposal of the property could be carried out only with the permission of a competent court.
