‘Campaign for cancer prevention needed’

Instead of a campaign for a cancer treatment centre, there should be more focus on preventive campaign against cancer, said actor Manju Warrier.

She was inaugurating the State-level cancer awareness programme in schools and colleges organised at Al Ameen Public School on Wednesday by Justice Krishna Iyer Movement.

The actor also pledged her commitment towards the preventive campaign and launched the logo.

B. Ashok, Vice Chancellor of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Science University, said use of frozen meats is one of reasons for increasing numbers of cancers.

He said that raw vegetables and fruits should be part of the daily diet to keep a healthy body.

K.R. Vishwambharan, former Vice Chancellor of Kerala Agricultural University and part of the Justice Krishna Iyer Movement, presided. T.P.M. Ibrahim Khan, president of CBSE School Association, said that the cancer awareness campaign will be taken up in the 1,360 CBSE schools in the State.

Writer M.K. Sanoo, Justice P.K. Shamsuddin, P. Rajeev, district secretary, CPI(M) and C.G. Rajagopal, BJP, were among those who participated. Dr. K. Chitrathara, cancer surgeon, held a class for students on cancer awareness with a focus on prevention.
