Boat develops snag, rescued

The Coastal Police on Monday rescued around 50 passengers, including women and children, on board a passenger boat, which could not be berthed at a jetty here following a technical snag.

The boat, owned by the State Water Transport Department, departed from the Ernakulam boat jetty around 8.30 p.m.

Just ahead of reaching the Customs Boat jetty, the vessel developed a snag on its reverse gear, and despite three attempts, it could not be brought ashore. Subsequently, it began drifting towards the sea mouth. On an alarm raised by passengers, Coastal Police personnel reached the spot on their patrol boat and tugged the vessel ashore.
