A young bike rider was killed while another suffered serious injuries on the Vyttila-Palarivattom NH Bypass on Sunday, in a suspected incident of bike racing.

The traffic police identified the victim as Mohammed Sajin, 21, of Vyttila, who was speeding on the corridor, with Jithin Raj, 27, who suffered serious injuries, on another bike. Jithin suffered fractures and a broken nose.

They were reportedly riding parallel at very high speed when the handles of the bikes got entangled with each other and they lost control of their vehicles. Mohammed suffered head injuries after he fell on the road, while his bike hit a wall. Both of them were rushed to a hospital nearby, where Mohammed died. Jithin suffered facial injuries and bodily fractures.
