The B.Com Model I course in Finance and Taxation has emerged as the most-sought-after undergraduate programme offered by Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) in the new academic year.
Of the 3.42 lakh option registrations made under the online Centralised Allotment Process (CAP), 27,011 students picked up the course as their most preferred choice. The trend emerged after the varsity published the trial allotment list for its undergraduate programmes in accordance with the original schedule on Tuesday.
The BA English Language and Literature Model I programme maintained its popularity as it came second among the preferred courses. As many as 18,660 students opted for the course, while the BA Economics Model I course came third, with 18,129 students going for it as the first option.
Among science courses, B.Sc Chemistry had the maximum takers. As many as 17,496 students opted for the Model I course. B.Sc Physics came second in the stream, with 15,908 candidates opting for the programme, followed by B.Sc Zoology Model I (14,196) and B.Sc Botany Model I (13,489).
The number of students who went for Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) as the first choice stood at 12,260. The aided B.Com Model I Computer Applications had 11,708 takers, while around 11,000 students opted for the B.Com Model II programme.
As many as 9,742 students selected BA History Model I course, while 8,895 candidates took BA Malayalam Language and Literature Model I as their preferred course.
Registrar M.R. Unni said the CAP was being carried out in accordance with the original schedule and without hiccups. “We had started early compared to other universities, and we never deviated from the original schedule,” he said. According to the varsity schedule, the first allotment list will be published on June 13, and the second allotment will be announced on June 19. Admissions will close on August 29.
The varsity has 22,083 seats for B.Com course under its colleges, while the intake for BSc programmes is 13,305 and BA (10,781).
