Bar scam: VACB submits report

VACB submits report to Lok Ayukta

June 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - KOCHI:

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Monday submitted its investigation report in the bar bribery scam to the Lok Ayukta.

The report, also including the quick verification report against Excise Minister K. Babu, was submitted in a sealed cover during a sitting of the Lok Ayukta at the Government Guest House here.

The Lok Ayukta’s proceedings were based on a petition filed by Khalid Mundappilly of Aluva, requesting the authority to order a vigilance probe in the case.

Considering the petition, the Lok Ayukta had directed the VACB Director to report the progress of the investigation by June 22.

The report is slated to be considered during the next sitting of the authority in Thiruvananthapuram on June 30. The VACB Kochi unit was assigned to conduct the investigation into allegations against Excise Minister in May.

When the vigilance team collected statement on May 6, Kerala Bar Hotels Association working president Biju Ramesh had stood by his previous statement that the Minister accepted bribe for rolling back the Ministry’s proposal to increase annual bar licence fee.
