: Every festival and the accompanying celebrations gain an added charm when held in conformity with environment.

The bamboo fest, which is under way at Marine Drive, holds out such a possibility during this Christmas.

Christmas stars made out of bamboo offered by the Thiruvalla-based Christian Agency for Rural Development have captured the imagination of visitors.

The agency, which has its production centre at Malayattoor-Neeleswaram in the district, also offers ethnic bamboo products such as lamp sets, trays, and baskets.

However, bamboo stars have the most number of takers. They are priced between Rs. 150 and Rs. 600. The higher price tag has been attributed to the complexity in its making compared to paper stars.

“It takes up to two days to make a star. However, it could be used for about five Christmas,” the stall owner said. Unlike ordinary papers, multi-coloured butter papers are used in their making.

The festival will end on December 8.
