Renowned singer K.S. Chithra received the Justice K.P. Radhakrishna Menon memorial Kala Ratna award from V.R. Krishna Iyer, former Supreme Court judge here on Monday.

She received the award for her outstanding contributions to music. Terming Ms. Chithra as an exceptional singer, Mr. Iyer said that her voice had won the hearts of thousands across the country. The jurist also praised the popular singer for upholding human values all along her illustrious career.

In her reply, Ms. Chithra said that she was deeply impressed to have received the award from one of the most respected jurists and warrior of social justice and peace.

She was also impressed by Ritamol, a student of School for the Blind at Keezhmadu near Alvua, who sang Oru naru pushpamayi… from the movie Meghamalhar on the occasion. Ms. Chithra appreciated the budding singer and also ensured support for her.

Noted literary critic M.K.Sanoo, and P.K.Shamsuddin, former Kerala High Court judge, were present at the award ceremony.
