In yet another case of alleged education fraud in Kochi, as many as 32 students of an air hostess training institute along with their parents on Wednesday approached the police alleging the institute of running a fake degree course.
According to police, the institute had admitted students in 2013 promising to provide BA course affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University in Meghalaya and also conducted a bogus examination on the pretext of the annual examination by the university. “The fraud came to light when the students contacted the university, which conveyed that it had not been offering any undergraduate courses in aviation’’, officials said. The fee for the three-year programme was fixed at Rs.2.5 lakh, of which, the students had already paid Rs 2 lakh. Based on a complaint, the police have asked the institute authority to be present at the Ernakulam South Police station on Monday.
Officials said the institute had its headquarters in New Delhi and had other centres run by franchises. The centre at Ravipuram in Kochi, is being operated by a person from Thiruvananthapuram.
