An autorickshaw driver who allegedly attempted to molest a higher-secondary school girl at Vaduthala on Friday evening was arrested by the Ernakulam North Police on Saturday.
Salim, aged 47, of Vachakkal, Edavanakkad, Ernakulam district, has been charged under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and remanded for 14 days.
The student was returning home after attending a special class when Salim attempted to molest her when the autorickshaw reached a secluded place.
Although taken by surprise, she resisted him. She also informed her parents of the incident.
They in turn approached the police, following which the registration number of the autorickshaw was traced and the driver arrested.
