Twelve officers of the Indian Navy, two Indian Coast Guard officers and a Sri Lankan Navy officer graduated as observers at a ceremonial passing out parade at the naval air base here on Friday.

Rear Admiral S.M. Vadgaonkar of the Integrated Headquarters (Navy) under the Ministry of Defence reviewed the parade and awarded ‘wings' to the officers who successfully completed the course at the Observer School commanded by Commander Vijayant Singh.

During the 46 week-long training, the officers learned tactics employed in air warfare, anti-submarine warfare and the exploitation of advanced electronic warfare systems. They also received basic training in air navigation and flying procedures.

The Indian naval officers will now function as ‘airborne tacticians' aboard the Navy's maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft.

At the parade, Coast Guard Assistant Commandant Sunil Negi was awarded the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command Trophy for being adjudged the best in flying, and the Uttar Pradesh Trophy for standing first in the overall order of merit.

Lieutenant G.S. Rathore was awarded Sub-Lieutenant R.V. Kunte Memorial Book Prize for being adjudged the best in ground subjects.
