A project report on cancer care centre should be prepared immediately, says V.R. Krishna Iyer.

December 12, 2013 11:35 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:40 pm IST - KOCHI:

Former Supreme Court judge V.R. Krishna Iyer told a press conference here on Wednesday that the team of activists campaigning for a world-class cancer care centre in Kochi would approach the Union government seeking financial backing for the project.

He said a memorandum would be submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is slated to visit Kochi later this month. The jurist was accompanied by veteran literary critic and social activist M.K. Sanoo, who welcomed the government decision to take over the Cochin Medical College. “What is now needed is the decision to establish a cancer care centre in Kochi, which would serve a large number of people,” he said.

Mr. Krishna Iyer urged the government to immediately launch work on a detailed project report for the cancer care centre so that it would be an authoritative document based on which work on the proposed centre could be launched.
