Accused in robbery case arrested

Theft of gold chain, cash at bus station

The police arrested a person accused in a robbery case from the Angamaly KSRTC bus stand on Saturday.

The accused was identified as Lijo Jose, 37, of Chalakkudy.

He is the second accused in the case in which one Joju Johny was robbed of his gold chain worth two-and-a-half sovereigns, ₹7,000 and a mobile phone costing₹12,000 on November 15. The first accused in th case, Shijil, is absconding.

Assault

According to the police, the two accused on a motorcycle waylaid the complainant at Panthaykkal Junction Road in Angamaly when he was on his way to collect money for meeting the expenses of the treatment of his mother who had been admitted in a hospital.

They allegedly assaulted him and fled with his valuables.

Police were able to track the accused based on the registration number of the motorcycle they had used for the assault.

The accused had shared the money among them and hidden the chain and the mobile phone in Lijo’s home.

Suspicion

He was caught while looking for jewellery shops to conjoint the chain that was broken while being snatched from the complainant.

This was to avoid arousing suspicion when trying to sell it.

A team led by Circle Inspector Muhammad Riyas and comprising of Sub Inspector Sony Mathai, and Assistant Sub Inspector made the arrest.

The accused was produced before the Angamaly court and remanded.
