Tension in Kochi following bomb threats

July 28, 2010 12:59 pm | Updated 12:59 pm IST - KOCHI

Tension prevailed in the city as there were bomb threats reported in District Collectorate and both the railway stations in the city along with Aluva railway station.

A letter received by T. Vikram, Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural, a couple of days ago said that bombs would go off at 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday. The letter was posted from Kalady.

Bomb squad and dog squad conducted thorough checking of Collectorate premises from 7.45 a.m. and did not find any explosive.

There were some crowd management issues at the Collectorate as the bomb squad restricted the entry to the office through one gate, while senior officials were allowed separate entry.

Only those who had identity cards were allowed into the office building initially, leading to some heated arguments.

The security at Collectorate was increased after a low intensity explosion rocked the building in July last year. The Special Investigation Team of City Police is still investigating the case and yet to arrest any suspects in this connection.
