Southern Regional PCB Conference at Alappuzha from Tuesday

The fourth Southern Regional Conference of State Pollution Control Boards will begin here on Tuesday.

Chairpersons and member secretaries of the Pollution Control Boards of all Southern States and the Union Territories of Goa, Andaman, Nicobar and Lakshadweep will participate in the two-day conference, which will be inaugurated by Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy at 10 a.m. at the Lake Palace Resort here.

The conference, which will aim to chalk out a future action plan for PCBs in the region, will also discuss the functioning of the Green Tribunal, the formation of a National Environmental Protection Authority, review of the existing system to measure air quality, strengthening of PCBs and management of plastic among other topics.

Central Pollution Control Board chairman S.P. Gautam will deliver the presidential address while Kerala PCB chairman S.D. Jeyaprasad and CPCB member secretary J.S. Kamyotra, among others, will address the inaugural function, according to a press release.
