North Paravur declared winners in district art fest

Aluva sub district emerges second in a closely fought battle with 833 points

Kochi: North Paravur sub district emerged champions at the Ernakulam Revenue District School Art Festival that drew to a close at North Paravur on Friday.

North Paravur, with 850 points, outshone nine-time champions Aluva sub district (833) in a closely-fought battle that saw the emergence of fresh talent. Ernakulam sub district, which finished runners-up in the last festival, was relegated to the third position with 780 points. Perumbavoor sub district finished fourth with 732 points, while Angamaly sub district logged 692 points.

In the higher secondary school category, North Paravur topped with 415 points, followed by Aluva and Ernakulam sub districts with 397 and 339 points respectively. SNMHSS, Moothakunnam, stood first in this category with 125 points. Vidyadhiraja Vidya Bhavan HSS, Aluva, finished second with 120 points, while Sacred Heart HSS, Thevara, came third with 101 points.

In the high school category, Ernakulam sub district came first with 319 points, and Aluva (315 points) and Angamaly (286) were not far behind.

St. Theresa’s CSHSS, Ernakulam, topped the table (78 points) in the high school category, while DD Sabha HS, Karimpadam, and HSS, Valayanchirangara, finished second and third.

In the UP category, North Paravur bagged the top position with 151 points followed by Perumbavoor (145) and Vypeen (132). North Paravur also topped the Sanskrit festival with 86 points trouncing Aluva to the second position. In the Arabic segment, Perumbavoor (91) and North Paravur (89) finished first and second.

Meanwhile, noisy scenes were witnessed at the fest when the results of Kerala Nadanam competition in the higher secondary category were announced. Protesters alleged that undue favours were being extended to SNMHSS, Moothakunnam, whose student was adjudged first in the item.

However, minor bickerings apart, the festival recorded a clear drop in appeals. There were 140 appeals this time as against 172 last year.
