The Thripunithura police have arrested a 31-year-old person on charges of robbery.

The accused has been identified as Sumesh, a native of North Paravur.

On Tuesday evening, the accused approached a woman walking along a road near the RLV College of Music and Fine Arts on a two-wheeler, snatched her bag, containing cash and a mobile phone, and fled the scene.

On receiving an alert, a police team chased the thief, who attempted to escape by taking a sudden diversion towards the mini-bypass to Maradu. He, however, was intercepted by another police team from Maradu police station.

Further investigations revealed that the two-wheeler ridden by the accused was stolen from North Paravur a couple of days ago. “The accused skilfully redesigned the two-wheelers stolen from various parts of the district and used them for chain-snatching,” the police said. He was produced in a local court and remanded in custody.
