The Civil Engineering graduate who made it to the final list in the Civil Services had set his heart to work to bring about a change. And Rahul P. R. from Thripunithura believes that a lot of things can be done if he worked with the Government.
A B.Tech graduate in 2008 from NSS Engineering College, Palakkad, Rahul has bagged 303rd rank in his first attempt at the Civil Services. It was during second and third year of his college that he first came to think about going for the Civil Services, said Mr. Rahul.
“I was involved with Chinmaya Yuva Kendra's Wings project at Palakkad that helps provide for education of poor children”, he said.
“Being part of the project, I had interacted with a lot of people from all sections of the society, especially in the lower strata. We had to find donors for children. I believe this experience got me thinking about the Civil Services,” he adds.
Son of Canara Bank Senior Manager P. M. Radhakrishnan and Vanaja, Rahul had done his schooling from Chinmaya Vidyalaya. Geography and Sociology were his subjects at the examination. “I had developed a liking for Geography while doing my Civil Engineering and found that I could easily understand the technical details. Sociology came up because of my involvement with the society at large. It was a subject that I wanted to know more.”
Nikhil Nirmal from Kadavanthara is yet another qualifier with his rank at 372. A Bhavan's Vidya Mandir alumni, Nikhil had last year graduated from the National University of Advanced Legal Studies and had enrolled as a lawyer.
Son of trade union leader S. Nirmal Kumar and K. G. Krishanveni, Deputy Registrar, Kerala High Court, Nikhil started thinking about Civil Services when he was in his final year at NUALS.
“I felt I could be better involved in development work of the country if I was part of the Services,” Nikhil Nirmal said.
Nikhil had taken Law and Public Administration as his subjects for the Civil Services examination.
