International book fair opens in Kottayam

The 27th Darsana International Book Fair commenced here on Friday.

The book fair is being organised by the Darsana Cultural Centre in association with the Kottayam district administration, the Kottayam Municipality and the Mahatma Gandhi University. The 10-day festival was inaugurated by Mathrubhumi managing director M.P. Veerendra Kumar. Mr. Kumar emphasised the importance of reading and imbibing the teachings conveyed through books.

C.V. Ananda Bose, Director, Central Cultural Department; V.N. Vasavan, M.L.A.; Kottayam Municipal Chairman Sunny Kalloor; District Collector Mini Antony; Kottayam Press Club School of Journalism Director Thekkinkad Joseph; and Darsana Cultural Centre director Thomas Puthussery spoke on the occasion. The book fair will conclude on February 6.

As many as 200 publishers are expected to participate in the event.

Eminent literary figures and publishers will interact with readers during the course of the event.
