Ernakulam district lags in plan fund utilisation

With two months remaining for the end of the current financial year, Ernakulam is among the districts lagging in fund utilisation.

According to data from the Department of Local Self Government, Ernakulam has spent only 19.3% of the funds and is among the bottom three districts in the State in terms of expenditure as on January 17, 2017.

The other districts in the bottom level are Kottayam with an expenditure of 17% and Thrissur with expenditure of 17.6%.

The State average of fund utilisation is 22.7 per cent and 21,402 projects have reported fund expenditure.

Among the districts that are ahead in fund use are Idukki (27.5%), Alappuzha (25.8%) and Palakkad (25%).

Among the local bodies, block panchayats have utilised 22.4% of the funds; corporations 17.9%; district panchayats 21.2%; grama panchayats 24.7% and municipalities 20%.

According to the data, the Kochi Corporation had spent only 11.60% of the funds while Kollam is among the top spenders with an expenditure of 23.19%. But Thrikkakara municipality is among the top spenders (43.8%) below Harippad municipality, which is the top spender (49.7%).

Among district panchayats, Ernakulam is at the bottom with 4.7% expenditure reported while Malappuram has spent 30% of the funds.
