District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla has ordered strict action against fishing using pelagic nets.

The Collector said on Thursday that the making of such nets stands banned on account of the tension caused by their usage.

Legal action will be taken against those found violating the ban. Fishing using vessels without licence and registration is illegal.

The owners of such vessels would be acted against under the provisions of the Kerala Marine Fishing Regulation Act of 1980.

Mr. Safirulla ordered all fishing vessels from other States which are not in possession of these documents and had not done colour coding to leave the shore.
