The Indian Association of Lawyers will organise awareness campaigns against the “rightist deviations” of judiciary, said A. Jayasankar, general secretary of the organisation.
The verdict of the Kerala High Court banning public meetings at roadsides in the State was in violation of the rights guaranteed by the Indian constitution. The judiciary was cutting a sorry figure by pronouncing judgements that could not be implemented like the ban on smoking in public places and bandhs, Mr. Jayasankar told media persons.
The court had pronounced a similar judgement banning campus politics. These judgements indicated that the judiciary was influenced by the globalisation agenda of de-politicising the public life, he said. In the public meeting case, the petitioner had sought a ban on conduct of meeting at Aluva Railway station ground. However, the court pronounced the judgement for the whole of the State.
The Association will file a review petition against the judgement, he said.
