Bus crashes into house injuring three

A bus driver lost control of his bus and crashed into a house on the roadside, damaging a portion of the house and injuring three passengers here on Tuesday.

The driver of the bus, a private service operating on the Alappuzha-Cherthala route, is said to have attempted to cross a railway crossing before the gates came down. In the process, he lost control of the bus, crashing into the kitchen of the house, situated on the roadside just after the level crossing.

Fortunately, the occupants of the house were in the front-yard, thus avoiding a major mishap. An eight-year-old boy, who was in the room adjacent to the kitchen, had a miraculous escape while the bus conductor and two women passengers, who were in the front seats of the bus, sustained minor injuries.

The mishap occurred around 8.30 a.m., when the bus was full with office-goers and school students. Passengers said the driver, who fled the spot immediately, was driving at a reckless speed and is suspected to have been in an inebriated condition.
