A message from the heart

In an attempt to make people aware of a healthy lifestyle and to take precautionary steps and keep their heart in order, a slew of programmes have been planned by various hospitals in the city for World Heart Day on Sunday on the theme ‘Work with Heart’.

Lisie Hospital, in association with Heart Care Foundation, will conduct a lipid profile for the participants in the programme at Pappali Hall on Sunday. Stressing healthy choices at work that is critical for overall wellness, Dr. Rony Mathew, head of interventional cardiology, in a press meet said that it is always better to use the stairs rather than a lift and have a diet low on saturated fat and rich in fruits and vegetables.

The Medical Trust Hospital will observe the day with a musical evening ‘Hridayaraga Sandhya’ on Saturday from 5.30 p.m. Actor Jayaram will be the chief guest on the occasion. National award winning music director Ouseppachan will be honoured during the function. Singers Sreenivasan, Kallara Gopan and Minmini will lead the music show.

Honour for veteran

Veteran cardiac physician Dr. D. V. Nair will be honoured during the function. E. Nandakumar, general manager, BPCL, will deliver the World Heart Day message. E.V. John, head of the cardiac surgery department at Medical Trust, will speak on ‘Work with Heart’.

Lakeshore Hospital will conduct a free heart check-up week from Sunday. For registration, contact 2772000 or 2701033.

Kerala High Court Chief Justice S.R. Bannurmath will present on Sunday the lifetime achievement award instituted by the Heart Care Foundation to A.K. Abraham for his pioneering service in the field of heart treatment, at Pappally Hall at 4.30 p.m.

The Heart Care Foundation and the Cardiological Society of India will observe the day with a variety of programmes lasting two days beginning Saturday, said Jose Chacko, chairman, Heart Care Foundation.

About 250 students will give consent to donate their organs with the consent of their parents.

The organ donation is being organised in association with the Lions Club International.

A panel discussion based on the theme “Work with heart,” led by Dr. Jabbir Abdullakutty, and Dr. Abraham Varghese will be held at 11.30 a.m.
