M.D Varghese, general manager, industrial relations and administration and head of CSR at Cochin Shipyard Limited and Sr.Leenus, headmistress of St.Thomas Girls’ High School, Perumanoor, at The Hindu In School programme in Kochi on Friday.

Aimed at kindling a quest for knowledge among students as also to equip them for tomorrow’s challenges, the distribution of The Hindu In School was inaugurated at St.Thomas Girls’ High School, Perumanoor, here.

The project, covered under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), was inaugurated by M.D. Varghese, general manager (industrial relations & administration and head of CSR), Cochin Shipyard.

Terming the long-standing relationship of the CSL with the school as one between good neighbours, he urged the students to fulfil their responsibilities.

“Your responsibility at this age is to learn, gain knowledge and be informed about the happenings in the world and this project is aimed at that,” he said. Only knowledge would take them to heights, he said. He cautioned them against indiscreetly choosing several other avenues available for information, asking them to be careful and selective so that they took the best route to knowledge.

Mr. Varghese also praised The Hindu for its independent stance on various issues in society which helped build responsible citizens. Earlier in the day, Mary Jose, teacher of the school, welcomed the gathering. Jencymol, a student of the school, proposed a vote of thanks.

The function was presided over by Sr. Leenus, headmistress of the school.

Paul P.M., programme manager (CSR), Cochin Shipyard; and Yoosaf A.K., CSR programme officer (CSR); and Sr. Jaya, academic co-ordinator of the school, were present.
