16 hepatitis A cases reported

At least 16 cases of hepatitis A were reported in the district on Friday from — Pambakuda (2), Mudakuzha (2), Asamannoor (5), Thottoor (2), Keerampara (4) and Arakunnam (1).

A number of suspected cases of hepatitis A were also reported, prompting the district health authorities to call an emergency meeting at Perumbavoor on Friday for stepping up preventive campaigns.

A 20-year-old girl who died in Mazhuvannur on Thursday had tested positive for dengue, leptospirosis and hepatitis A, said District Medical Officer R. Sudhakaran.

Ten cases of jaundice were detected at a medical camp conducted at Mazhuvannur, said District Health Officer P. N. Sreenivasan. A canteen at the Muvattupuzha Taluk Hospital had been shut down by the authorities due to unhygienic conditions there.

Cases of monsoon-related diseases, including a case of typhoid, are also being reported.

As many as 527 cases of fever were reported in the out-patient wing of various hospitals in the district, while 20 persons have been admitted.
