Zoo Day to be celebrated today

The Nehru Zoological Park, as part of the Vanya Prani Saptah, is celebrating Zoo Day on Tuesday with a visit by Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna lined up as part of the celebrations. In a press release issued on Monday, the zoo said a revamp of all the animal enclosures and cages had been taken up, moats had been cleaned with bleaching powder and the main entrance and footpaths, freshly painted.

Carnival

A zoo carnival with a march past by different teams in animal costumes and mimicry performances has been scheduled at the zoo at 4 p.m.

“The carnival will feature dance performances such as snake dance, tiger dance and peacock dance by artistes, apart from a parade by children in animal costumes,” said the zoo curator, Gopi Ravi.

A train ride to the rhinoceros enclosure will be organised, followed by the release of the newborn rhinoceros calf. The curator said before releasing them, the naming ceremony of the calf will be performed.
