‘Your genes needn’t define your jeans’

June 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A new genetic test for weight loss that could provide clarity on a person’s tendency for appetite, fat storage and absorption, as also the body mass index (BMI) was unveiled on Friday.

SlimGene, a product of molecular diagnostics company Mapmygenome India, uses the saliva or blood as sample to predict the person’s predisposition. This could now help nutritionists and dieticians prescribe dietary changes to their clients, Mapmygenome CEO Anu Acharya said.

SlimGene comes for Rs.2,000 and comes with easy upgrade options to include diet and fitness, genetics of nutrition or genetic counselling.

“Your genes need not define your jeans. When you know what your genes say, you can take charge of other controlling factors and get the ideal weight you desire,” she said.
