Students from various educational institutions in the town on Monday had the rare opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of weapons carried by police personnel on duty, and the use of sniffer dogs in crime detection and anti-sabotage checks.
An open house held at the police parade grounds marking the beginning of Police Commemoration Week was inaugurated by Khammam Police Commissioner Tafseer Iqbal. He said essay-writing, elocution, painting and other competitions will be conducted as part of the commemoration week in remembrance of police martyrs. Rallies and blood donation camps will also be organised across the district in this connection.
A “Smriti parade” will be organised at the police parade grounds on Police Commemoration Day on October 21 as a mark of respect to the officers who laid down their lives at their altar of duty.
Officials of the Armed Reserve wing explained to participants about the functioning of a host of weapons besides familiarising them with the use of trained sniffer dogs for detecting explosive materials by bomb disposal squads.

People from various walks of life and students attended an open house at the Rudramadevi Hall on the police commissionerate premises as part of Police Commemoration Week. Commissioner of Police V. Ravinder inaugurated the open house.
Different stalls were set up to explain the functioning of various police wings which help maintain law and order.
Stalls with weapons of all kinds used by the police personnel, bomb disposal squad, clues team, communications, fingerprints scanning etc. were set up and technical aspects of each were explained to students.
“This is the time to remember the officers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty,” Mr. Ravinder said to the attendees..
