Yadadri power project on fast-track

A meeting between top executives of Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Ltd (TSGenco) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has decided to construct the 5×800 MW Yadadri Supercritical Thermal Power Station in Nalgonda district in fast track and launch units at once.

The meeting between TSGenco and BHEL officials was held here on Saturday to discuss the grounding of works following the issuance of environmental clearance by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change during the last week of June this year and completion of other formalities by the State Pollution Control Board after that.

Chairman and Managing Director of Genco D. Prabhakar Rao, Executive Director of BHEL Gopalakrishna and others attended the meeting.

According to officials, the meeting discussed design of the project and various technical issues to be followed in tune with the guidelines issued for implementation of the project as part of its environmental clearance.

A final decision, however, on the technicalities, administration and costs for executing the ₹ 25,000 crore project would be taken on Monday at a meeting between Mr. Prabhakar Rao and Chairman and Managing Director of BHEL Atul Sobti.

Mr. Prabhakar Rao stated that Yadadri power project is key to the State Government’s plans to make Telangana a power surplus State and the importance being accorded to the project could be gauged from the fact that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had held a meeting with BHEL and Genco officials at Delhi last month, during his visit there.

Stating that financial closure for the thermal power project was also completed, the Genco chief said Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd and (REC) and Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC) have already come forward to finance the project.

Meanwhile, Mr. Prabhakar Rao expressed hope that rains in the catchment areas of Krishna in Karnataka and Maharashtra would augur well with Telangana as release of water from projects there would help TSGenco to take up hydel generation at its facilities here.
