World Heritage Day at Chowmahalla from today

Chowmahalla Place, the restored monument of Nizam era will host the World Heritage Day celebrations with the long week-end cultural programmes starting on Friday.

April 18 is the designated International day of Monuments and Sites and to mark the occasion, Chowmahalla Palace is opening its doors to celebrate the historical city of Hyderabad, said a release.

The citizens are welcome to savour the ambience and experience a slice of history with cultural performances during the long week-end. The festivities will kick off with Kathak performance by the city-based Akruti Kathak Kendra headed by Raghav and Mangala Bhatt. It will be followed by mellifluous Ghazals by Maleka-e-ghazal and Devi Ramana Murthy. On Saturday, the programme includes Sufiana Qawwalis and Ghazals in association with Hyderabad Arts Festival and Pooja Gaitonde from Mumbai will present Ghazals, while Rajab Ali and his troupe from Rajasthan Sufi music. Mohammad Ali Baig of Qadir Ali Baig’s Theatre Foundation will stage the play, 1857: Turrebaz Khan, the story of unsung freedom fighter.
