The long-pending demand of various categories of workers of the State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) for house sites has yet again gained momentum ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections slated for December 7.
The Singareni drivers, EP operators, UG All Trade Workers Association representing different categories of workers including the excavation project operators and fitters, has launched a campaign through social media and also in the form of area-wise meetings across the coal belt region, to mobilise the workforce in pursuit of the long-standing demand for house sites to all the workers of the company.
The Association has drawn up plans to intensify their ongoing campaign to bring their demand into sharp focus.
The long-cherished dream of scores of workers of the SCCL of owning a home has remained unfulfilled till date, said K. Srinivas Reddy, general secretary, Singareni Drivers, EP Operators, UG All Trade Workers Association.
300 acres
The State government had earlier agreed to allot 300 acres to the executive and management cadre officials of the SCCL near Hyderabad, he said, insisting that all the workers of the company be allotted house sites in the coal belt region spanning six districts as well as near the State capital as per their choice.
The Association is planning to undertake a padayatra in the coal belt region to muster support for demands of the SCCL workforce, he said.
