A housewife landed behind bars after her plan to cover up the losses in a chit fund business by looting her sister-in-law’s house went awry.

Sama Rajitha (30) of Champapet planned to raid the house of Sailaja, widow and elder sister of her husband S. Surender Reddy, at Manikonda, Raidurg Inspector A. Balakoti said on Monday.

She consulted her cousin A. Shankar Reddy, who approached one S. Sunil to execute the dacoity plot, the inspector added. Sunil and four of his gang members did a reconnaissance of Sailaja’s house.

On January 10, they barged into the house and ransacked it after threatening to kill Sailaja. As they did not find any valuables, they snatched a gold chain that Sailaja wore and took Rs. 2,000 and fled. Emboldened by the “successful execution” of the plan, Rajitha gave Rs. 70,000 to the gang for the next task of kidnapping Sailaja or her children for ransom.

Rajitha went to her sister-in-law’s house so that she could help the gang enter the house easily,” the inspector said.

However, their plan was aborted by some alert neighbours who came to Sailaja’s rescue.

Rajitha, Sunil, Arun Premraj and Shankar Reddy were caught. Based on their confession, three other accused were nabbed on Sunday.
