A day after the parents of a 20-year-old woman lodged a complaint with the Chandrayanagutta police that their daughter was kidnapped, cops on Tuesday found out that the incident was stage-managed.

It was on Monday that Asma Begum and Mohammed Majeed, who are residents of Patel Nagar, complained of their daughter Thabasum Begum’s kidnap by one Mustafa, her friend. Acting on the complaint, cops registered a case under section 363 (kidnapping) of the IPC and began investigation.

After suspects were interrogated, cops found out that Thabasum hid herself in homes of acquaintances in the Shaheen Nagar area. Later, she was located in the Dargah Hazrat Yusufain.

Cops said that Thabasum confessed to staging the incident. She pretended to have been kidnapped and sent a video clip of her purported kidnapping to her mother. They said that family issues were reasons behind staging the incident.
