In a shocking case reported at Neredmet, a mother allegedly branded her four-year-old son Ayan with a hot iron rod over a period of two months.
The abuse came to light on Monday when Riyaz, Ayan’s uncle, met him at his house recently and approached the police. There were burn marks on his legs, lips and hands.
The accused Reshma married a car driver, Mahesh, after divorcing her first husband a year ago. Following the divorce, Riyaz and other family members were taking care of Ayan.
“Riyaz told us that Reshma took away the child two months ago. And when they asked her to send him back, she demanded Rs. 50,000 and also subjected the boy to physical torture,” Neredmet Sub-Inspector James Babu said.
Following a complaint from Riyaz, police registered a case under section 384 (extortion), 324 (hurt) and 506 (criminal intimation) of Indian Penal Code against Reshma and Mahesh.
They were taken into custody.
