In a gruesome incident, a woman allegedly branded her ten-year-old daughter with burning firewood at Perupalli village in Karepalli (Singareni) mandal on Sunday evening.

The incident came to light on Monday morning when the local anganwadi worker noticed external burn injury marks on the hands of the girl at the anganwadi centre.

Sources said the woman, a daily wage labourer, allegedly placed burning firewood on the hands of her daughter when the latter reportedly opened the coin box meant for saving money while playing at their home late in the evening.

The infuriated woman beat up her daughter before resorting to the cruel act, sources added.

The local anganwadi worker rushed the injured girl to a hospital and alerted the higher ups of the Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department on Monday afternoon. After first-aid at the hospital, the girl was shifted to Balala Sadanam in Khammam later in the day.

The officials reportedly asked the field staff to file a complaint against the mother of the injured girl under the relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act and ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident.
