It’s raining money on the Excise department. The department has earned around ₹900 crore in the form of non-refundable application fee from enthusiastic applicants who filed applications for securing licence to run liquor outlets for the next two years from Nov 1, 2019 to October 31, ,2021.

As the last date for submission of applications ended on Wednesday, the department received around 45,000 applications for 2,216 shops across the State, amounting to around ₹900 crore revenue to the department as the application fee is non-refundable. The response assumes significance as the department's collection during the previous notification in 2017 was around ₹400 crore.
