The structure claimed to be a mosque at Amberpet is not the only religious structure that the GHMC has had to deal with while proceeding with property acquisition for the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).
A temple at L.B. Nagar crossroads also stands in the way of the flyover proposed on the right side. Acquiring it may be difficult as the stakeholders are not amenable to conciliatory methods. Already talks have been conducted with the temple management, but they remain unyielding, officials informed. The flyover on the left side has already been thrown open to vehicle users. “There are a few shops adjacent to the temple, which are encroachments. We want to begin by removing them, after which the temple authorities may relent,” says a senior official from GHMC.
While another option is to take the flyover over and above the temple, it will cost much more in terms of property acquisition, he said.
The corporation is facing similar problems with regard to Balanagar flyover, where negotiations are on with the stakeholders of two to three religious structures, he said.
GHMC also has success stories it may draw strength from, pertaining to acquisi tion of religious structures. One such instance is near Toli Chowki, where a flyover is being proposed as part of SRDP. “There are two temples on both sides of the road. While they do not obstruct the flyover as such, we need to acquire them for road widening. We have been requested by temple authorities to build new temples on their own land nearby, which we have agreed to,” the official said.
Another temple for which the Town Planning officials have managed to get approval to be moved was obstructing construction of ramp for the PVNR Expressway near Gudimalkapur. In this case, alternative land will be shown for construction of temple, officials said.
