What should the government do?

March 10, 2012 02:23 pm | Updated 02:23 pm IST - Hyderabad

Three prime government lands in the heart of the city – old Gandhi Medical College, old Gandhi Hospital and Hotel Ritz would have become mammoth commercial edifices compounding the woes of the traffic-clogged capital.

By a quirk of fate, the lands are again with the government and perhaps its time to think of better usage of precious public spaces:

Such as take up construction of offices for the Hyderabad Collectorate or multi-storied parking complexes, shopping complexes for those displaced for metro rail or for the project itself, houses for encroachers on the storm water drains, public park etc.

It's time for the citizens to set the agenda for the government.
